Red

When I think of red, I think of pizza hut,
The place where we had our first double date.

Red
For the differing blushes we wore as we stepped inside.

Red
For the lipstick you wore that stained your glass.

Red
For the bloodshot eyes and drunk red face of your crush

Red
for the shirt/flannel my date wore, as he stood up to his friend

Red
For the blood that ran onto the lipstick-stained chips, that dug into in your skin

Red
For the anger that burned through every vein in my body, as I glared at your date

Red
For the colour that drained from her face as she stared at him, shocked

Red
For the roses I gave her while she recovered

. . .

Red.
For the colour of her room, where we blushed,
where her lipstick stained my lips.

Red, for the words we whispered into each other’s mouths:

'I love you’
