Lapis Surabaya
She came in 1998 from Surabaya, Indonesia
She liked baking, reading magazines, bicycling & picking mangoes off the trees and peeling and eating them.
She loves dogs and growing up she took care of many of them, as her mother would take in abandoned dogs until she could give it away.
Batik (Indonesian dyed cloth)
She wasn't allowed to go to school, so she learnt how to do maths, poetry, read and write herself.
She was very generous and selfless- helping raise 3 of her sisters in law and sharing her belongings even though she didn't have much.
She made food and traditional Indonesian clothes with embroidery to sell. Everything she wore she had made herself.
Mount Agung, Bali
He came in 1991 from Surabaya, Indonesia.
He liked swimming, playing pingpong, and reading stories.
His earliest memory was seeing a thick layer of ash in Surabaya, from a sand eruption all the way from Mount Agung Bali.
